Sun 19th Feb 2012 - Float Only Winter League ROUND...
Well it’s about time for an update! I haven’t updated in over a month simply because I had to put my fishing on hold with my first child due at the start of February. Baby Robbie was born on Sunday 12th February 2012 and whilst i’d been very good at looking after Lauren and helping her throughout the week I was ‘told’ that I had to go fishing because I deserved it so...

Mon 2nd Jan 2012 - Fishing the slider @ Carnteel. I fished for 2 hours 10 minutes before I got my first bite and then put 3-4Kg of Roach in the net with my 3rd hours fishing before I packed up at 12noon. Biggest Roach around 1lb, maybe just over. Rest averaged 4-6oz. I fished 43 turns in 15ft of water laying 3-5” overdepth fishing double red maggot, catapulting in a small ball of...

A quick look back at 2011...
2011 has been good to me in several respects but also on the Match Fishing front. I put a bit of effort into my match fishing and fished matches most weekends throughout the year. I fished my first ‘Big’ Festival early on in the year which was the IADA Spring Festival on Lough Muckno. It didn’t go quite to plan for me but it was an eye opener to see what way these festivals run...

Sun 18th Dec 2011 - Float Only ROUND 6
Round 6 was again back on the Rosslea Lakes. 1-2 degrees was showing up on the way down the road this morning and the back roads to the Rosslea Lakes were very dangerous with ice. Lyon’s lake was frozen over with about 10mm of ice. 17 anglers turned up and ony 3 sections were in today: 6 pegs on Inver High 6 Pegs on Drumacritten 5 pegs on Gavins Today turned into a bit of a disaster for...

Sun 4th Dec 2011 - Erne Anglers Float Only Winter...
No fishing again for me last weekend left me looking forward to Round 5 of the Float only Winter league. Back again to the Rosslea Lakes and another new section was introduced this week for Round 5 to replace the section on Killyfole. It was Quigley’s lake which is in beind Drumacritten. I’ve never fished it before but there was a chance that it could throw up a decent weight to get...

Sun 20th Nov 2011 - FLOAT ONLY Winter League ROUND...
My fishing has been cut down to once a fortnight now, no more 2 day weekends which the wife is glad to hear and that’s probably the reason why i’ve cut back a little to stop her nagging! :) With no fishing for a change last weekend, it was time for Round 4 of the Float Only Winter League. Back again to the Rosslea lakes before they get the chance to freeze over or flood. One new...

Sun 6th Nov 2011 - Float Only ROUND 3, Roslea...
The Irish Team Qualifiers have finished up for the year and after a good result for me it’s now time to concentrate on the Float Only Winter league. Round 3 took place on the Roslea lakes again. The water levels were back down to normal after all the rain before Round 2 but the frost had arrived for Round 3. -2 degrees down the road this morning. The usual sections were in this morning: ...

A 2 hour drive home yesterday and back again this morning saw me back at the Boyle Canal. I was slightly confident this morning after yesterdays result so I was looking forward to the fishing again. Three 6 peg sections were in today, this time with one 6 peg section to the right of the bridge and the other two 6 pegs sections to the left of the bridge. The pegging was slightly different today...

Sat 29th Oct 2011 - Irish Team Qualifier 5 - Boyle...
It’s time for the last 2 qualifiers for the 2012 team selection process. It was scheduled for the Lower Bann @ Portglenone but with the rain over the last week and flooding in many parts of the country it was a good decision to move to a backup venue away from the flooded rivers. The Boyle canal was selected as the backup venue and that’s where the last 2 qualifiers were to take...

Sun 23rd Oct 2011 - Float Only Round 2
It has only been a week since the first round and after my section 2nd last week I was sitting 8th overall in the league. Round 2 was again on the Rosslea Lakes and after an early draw I found myself on Drumacritten Peg 4. My peg was very deep, around 18ft at 12m so I decided to keep things simple today. Two top 4’s and a slider rod. VDE Secret formed the base of my usual mix and I decided...

Sat 22nd Oct 2011 - Lurgan Fox Match FINAL
After 15 rounds the top 10 anglers in the league qualified for the 1 day final. No surprises when the venue announced was Loughgall. I had missed 5 league matches and 4 of them were on Loughgall but what I would have learn’t at these matches would have got thrown out the window with todays weather conditions. Pegs 16 - 26 were in today after last weeks league match produced probably one of...

Sun 16th Oct 2011 - Erne Anglers FLOAT ONLY Winter...
It’s that time of the year again when the Winter Leagues start and in my opinion the Erne Anglers Float Only Winter league is one of the best leagues out there. There’s a very high standard of anglers and usually a turnout of anywhere between 20-30 anglers every match. Anglers like Neal Mazurek, Nicky Harrison, John Potters, David Burleigh, Dave Slator, Simon Huthwaite, Jack Tisdall,...

Irish Team Qualifier - NEWRY CANAL
Not very much preperation went into this qualifier simply because i’ve been out fishing all over the place for the past few weekends leading up to this. I haven’t visited Newry Canal in some time, in fact the last time I can remember fishing it was one of the Drennan Super League matches when I fished for Lurgan VDE which was nearly 8 years ago maybe more. The last match that took...

Inter-Provincials 2011
This year it was Munsters time to host the Inter Provincials so Inniscarra near Cork was the venue chosen. The journey took just over 4.5hrs from Enniskillen to Coachford where the draw was to take place. 3 of us travelled down together - myself, Jack and Gavin (Driver). There was no Connaught Team this year so there was only Ulster, Leinster and home province ‘Munster’ to battle it...

Interprovincials - DAY 2
Day 1 went relatively well for ULSTER managing 2nd overall on the day and only 1 point behing home province MUNSTER. It also ended with a nice Chinese in Macroom and an early night fro a few of us. With a change/rotation in pegs, LEINSTER were guaranteed an end peg draw in each setion today after being stuck in the middle yesterday. It was between ULSTER and MUNSTER who got the other end peg in...
